Tendering opportunities for Sunshine Coast businesses

Businesses on the Sunshine Coast are encouraged to attend one of two Tendering for Government Business workshops to learn practical skills to help them successfully submit tenders for government work.

Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) Regional Director Brian Stockwell said many local businesses should consider tendering for State Government contracts and attending a workshop would help them better understand the processes and requirements involved.

"There are great opportunities for local businesses with the Queensland Government spending billions of dollars on building, infrastructure and operational projects," Mr Stockwell said.

DEEDI is offering half-day practical workshops to help businesses understand the tendering process and to show them how to complete Queensland Government tender documents.

"Suppliers will be shown where to look for tender opportunities, how to ensure they are in a position to respond and what support is available to help them," Mr Stockwell said.

"There are many tender opportunities across Queensland ranging from major projects to ongoing operational contracts such as office fit out, cleaning, landscaping and project modelling.

Mr Stockwell said major projects that could benefit from local products and services included the $1.97 billion Sunshine Coast University hospital which was expected to create work for around 10,000 people and was scheduled to open in 2016.

"The hospital will deliver a range of specialist clinical services and work with local universities to provide educational and research facilities," he said

"Local suppliers may be in a position to offer competitive products or services but they can miss out on contract by making simple mistakes including not answering all questions or not following required formats.

"Suppliers can increase their chances of success by developing a clear understanding of how to improve their tenders."

Tendering for Government Business workshops will be held on Friday 6 May 8am -- 12noon and from 1pm -- 5pm at Level 1, JH Roberts, 60 Wises Road, Maroochydore.

The workshop will be delivered by DEEDI's Office of Advanced Manufacturing and should be considered by all businesses looking to tender directly to the government for the supply of products and services.

For more information or to register, contact the DEEDI Sunshine Coast Centre on 5451 6300 or email There is a $44 cost for each participant.
