2005 FCS QUEENSLAND JUNIOR TITLES
SUNSHINE COAST JUNE 18-19
QUEENSLAND'S BEST JUNIORS VIE FOR TITLES
The stage is set for the best juniors in Queensland to fight it out for places in the state team, and for the prestige of being a Queensland Champion at the FCS Queensland Junior Titles to be held on the Sunshine Coast on June 18-19. Five divisions will compete, from the under 14 boys to Under 16 and 18 boys and girls. Teams from the Gold Coast, North Stradbroke Island, and the Sunshine Coast will compete, the Sunshine Coast surfers with the advantage of the event held on their home turf. Surfers in both the under 18 and 16 years boys and girls divisions will be surfing for places in the Queensland team to compete at the Quiksilver Australian Grommet Titles to be held in Tasmania (26th November - 3rd December), with the top placing surfers at the national titles getting a chance to compete in the Quiksilver World Grommet Titles. Current WCT surfers such as Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Bede Durbidge, and Dean Morrison all started their surfing careers competing in this event, clearly showing a career path for the up and coming junior surfers of today.
The Sunshine Coast as always will have a strong team and will be looking to fill as many places as possible in the Queensland Team. Peridgean surfer Jasper Endersby will be defending his under 16 Queensland Title, looking to win a Queensland Title for the 3rd year running, with his first the under 14 title he won in 2003. Another surfer always a threat will be Coolum surfer Julian Wilson. Julian is no stranger to winning Queensland Titles, he has already competed in the World ISA Junior Titles, in fine form and primed to win the under 18 Queensland Title. Sunshine Coast Champion Shane Felsigner will be a threat, as will be defending Queensland Champion Dean Iezzi. Rainbow Beach brothers Noah and Jackson Lane will be another pair to watch in their divisions, as well as up and coming Coolum ripper Sam Rhodes.
The Sunshine Coast girls contingent is looking very strong, under 18 Sunshine Coast Champion Alex Coleborn shaping up a favourite, but the Moore sisters Shayla (U/18) and Quincy (U/16) a pair to watch along with Georgie Roach, Dimity Stoyle, and Sunshine Coast under 16 Champion, Ella Courtenay.
Gold Coast surfers will be looking to wreak havoc to the local surfers plans to dominate the FCS Queensland Titles, Gold Coast champion Wesley Seiberhagen out to claim his first Queensland Title. The solidly built and powerful natural footer a real talent should the swell be up, and he has a host of other Gold Coast surfers ready to grab the title should he falter. Michael Levitt is no stranger to Queensland Titles, and along with Aaron Peck, Nick Vasicek, and Jarrod Bell, and all should pose a threat in the under 18 boys division. In the under 16 boys there will be a battle royal with another Coolangatta trio of Kane Powell, Blake Ainsworth, and Josh Lee all talented and experienced surfers for their age.
Gold Coast girls will be out to grab team places in the Queensland Team, Gold Coast U/18 Champion Amy Hart and Currumbin surfer Caitlin Hayles out for a Queensland Title. Tugun surfer and Gold Coast Champion Tiana McNeven looking good for a shot at a Queensland Title in the under 16 girls division, and Burleigh surfer Hannah Van Druten, and former Queensland Champion Izzy Chilcott of Currumbin another two surfers not to be discounted.
North Stradbroke Island surfers will be out to upset the apple cart, and although they have the smallest team, size means nothing with some quality surfers coming from the Island community, the home of WCT surfer Bede Durbidge.
Lincoln Taylor will be the main standout for the North Stradbroke Island surfers, already performing on the international stage at the World ISA junior titles in Tahiti, but Lincoln will not be alone challenging for places in the Queensland Team. Ashley McDonald a real chance and one to watch in the Under 16 boys, and Jade Antinoeff ready to grab a Queensland title in the under 18 girls division. With the variety of surf at North Stradbroke Island the "Straddy kids" are ready for whatever conditions they have to compete in on the Sunshine Coast.
