The festival committee have been working overtime to make sure that the 2005 Noosa festival of surfing is one to remember. Club president John Gilroy has set the dates to be the first week in March again to align us with the surf season. The dates are 2nd of March to the 6th of March 2005. The opening ceremony and sign on will be Tuesday 1st starting at 4.00pm.
The festival has attracted Surftech, Golden Breed and local hotelier the Noosa Reef Hotel as major sponsors. Surftech for the Surftech $6,000 men's Pro and The Reef Hotel $1,800 woman's pro. Golden Breed once again showing how committed they are to longboarding by again putting up the $5,000 cash for the Golden Breed noserider.
The divisional sponsors are showing continued support in events such as the Classic Malibu amateur 9-foot open, Noosa Longboards old mal, Rhino Racks O/35, Beach beat O/45, Hawaiian Pro Design O/50, Madill's Motors O/55, Finch Swim Wear Amt Woman, Finch Swim Wear J/Girls, Gordon & Smith U/18 & Na Papa Surfboards U/14s Grommets.
Again we extend a huge thankyou to all our sponsors.
The Noosa festival has become the event of the southern hemisphere or maybe the planet, so if you're serious about longboarding you have to come. The festival caters for over 400 competitors in all divisions with a number of novelty events to keep everyone happy.
2005 will mark the 40th anniversary of the first showing in Australia of the cult surf movie Endless Summer. To celebrate this remarkable event Surftech will be bringing Robert August (ES 1) & Wingnut Weaver (ES 2) to Noosa. So don't miss out on a chance to surf with the stars.
The many point and beach breaks around Noosa will keep the most hardened of surfers satisfied while their not surfing First Point with 5 other competitors. Ti'tree is everyone's favourite but there is nothing like those long right handers that roll through the National park into Little Cove to make the trip north well worthwhile.
There isn't to many places in the world were you can be hangin 10 in your heat or final at a world class point break then after a 50 metre walk up the beach sit down in one of Noosa's fine restaurants café's or bars for a well earned rest. The shopping in Hastings Street is also an attraction for the surfing or none surfing wives were most brand names are catered for, just like Rodeo Drive, so bring along the wife and kids.
Entertainment for the 2005 festival is still in the planing stages but we are sure that everyone will have a great time stompin and rockin for the five days.
The last event on the programme is the haircut party at Café Lamond on Sunday night. We had some absolute legends put their hair up for charity in 2004. Wayne Dean and Ray Gleave showed their champion status by cutting off a few years growth to help find a cure for cancer.
Who knows we may even get Wingnut to bare it all in 2005. So come along and enjoy the fun.
Entry forms will made available to clubs and surfers from the website www.noosamalibuclub.com on the 31st of October 2004. (You will need to download Adobe Reader)
This year we will be posting the heat draw as a XL attachment on the website.
Entry and payment will be made only by cheque and post in Aussie $.
So get waxed up and come along.
