This weekend promises to be an extremely exciting time when Quad Park Events present the 2005 Maroochy RSL Rugby League Cup Grand Final.
The Maroochy RSL Rugby League Cup comes to an exciting end this Sunday. Who could believe that the Caloundra Sharks after completing the home and away season undefeated would be bundled out of the final series without winning a game?
The Nambour Crushers, first into the finals are trying to win three premierships in a row but now have the Noosa Pirates between them and a piece of Sunshine Coast rugby league history. After the Pirates shock despatch of the Sharks in front of huge crowd at Maroochydore last Sunday, they have shortened in price for the 2005 premiership.
This Sunday will see the Pirates, with ex NRL champion Noel Goldthorpe leading an enthusiastic mix of youth and experience up against a Crushers side that is used to winning at this time of year. The Crushers will be looking for a big game out of their talented half back Ben Smith and will also be expecting brother Aaron to continue his brilliant form leading their forwards up against the rejuvenated Pirates pack.
This Sunday's match up will have everything rugby league fans expect in a grand final, not only the main game but the preliminaries as well. The day starts at 9.30 with the Under 18 game between Caloundra and Nambour, in what will be fitting start to the day. Fans would be advised to get there early as this match and the Under 21 game between Maroochydore and Caboolture/ Bribie have the makings of 1st Grade standard football.
If that's not enough the Reserve Grade between Bribie Island and a Caloundra Sharks outfit that survived an extra time win over Caboolture last week also has the makings of a great encounter.
Throw in an Oz Tag display at half time, a sky diver arriving before kick off and every player on the day competing for the Mal Meninga Medal in each grade that will be presented after the A grade final, Sunday at Quad Park will be a great conclusion to the Maroochy RSL Cup for 2005.
