Caloundra times fun run to perfection
Runners in the picturesque Caloundra Foreshore Fun Run on Sunday, May 27, will be able to time their run to perfection thanks to the introduction of the latest microchip timing bands.
The timer bands have been introduced for the first time this year along with a new category for entries 36 years to 45 years.
The fun run course hugs the Pumicestone Passage Marine Park from Bell's Creek at Golden Beach to Bulcock Beach and then around the Caloundra Headland taking in the spectacular scenery at Kings Beach and Shelly Beach before finishing at Moffat Beach.
This is the third year of the event that raises funds for the Parents and Friends Association of local primary school Our Lady of the Rosary.
In the team's event, the average time of the five runners will be recorded to determine the trophy winner.
Local surf clubs have also been challenged to enter with the best team receiving a $250 donation to buy surf equipment.
Last year's 10klm men's winner was John Carey in 34.43minutes and woman's champion was Roxie Schmidt in 37.52mins
Event spokesperson Sean Lever said the day was a family event with an option to enter the 3km walk from Moffat Park to Shelley Beach.
"The run has become an annual event over 10km and 3km for all ages and abilities with numerous random draw prizes available to all entrants with the major prize being a $500 voucher at Bi-Rite electrical Caloundra. Other prizes include Club Pelican golf vouchers, clothing vouchers, massages and accommodation packages," Mr Lever said.
The 10klm assembly point is Jensen Park at the southern end of Golden Beach from 7.15am (cost $20 which includes event T-shirt). The 3klm race assembly is at Moffat Beach Park at 8.15am (family $20, individual $10, student $5).
Categories include youth (under-19), open (20-35), middle entry (36-45) and masters (over 46). Entry forms and further information is available at www.olr.qld.edu.au
Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle MP will present the trophies at 9.15am.
