HO HO HO - A MERRY COOROY CHRISTMAS
Christmas in Cooroy this year is shaping up to be a very merry time indeed. Being held in Apex Park on 8 December, this year's celebrations are going to be the biggest and best yet.
You are going to love the entertainment line up that has been organised this year. The festivities start at 11.00am in Apex Park with the Luke's Supa IGA Battle of the Bands, free rides, free face painting, Magician Ben Wright, food stalls, a licensed venue and loads of activities and entertainment throughout the day.
The Luke's Supa IGA Battle of the Bands kicks off the stellar line up of entertainment and it's a great opportunity for local youth to showcase their bands and at the same time be in the running for cash prizes and the opportunity to play as a lead-in for the professional bands in the evening. The competition runs from 11.00 am to 2.00pm on 8 December in Apex Park and the entry fee is only $5 per band. The exposure that these bands get is fantastic. Bands interested in competing need to register with Steve Hall on 5442 6813 (leave a message) or via email on firstname.lastname@example.org
Kids start planning your entry for the Bendigo Bank Decorate Your Bike Competition to be in the running to win your very own bank account with a starting deposit of $50.00. Entry is free and all entries receive a Bendigo Bank Piggy Bank and can participate in the street parade.
The Zinc 96.1 and Wimmers Street Parade starts at 4.00pm and makes it way up Maple Street and back with local business and community groups competing to take out the Christmas in Cooroy Best Float Award.
After the street parade, there will be Christmas Carols and a visit from Santa followed by the Cooroy Rag Party to entertain the crowds into the night. Linsay Pollack and the K Karimba Marimba band are playing at 7.45pm and Urban Hombres are playing from 8.15pm until late.
The Queensland Media Print Decorate Your Shop Window Competition ($15 entry fee) is on again and the Chamber of Commerce are also organising street lights and decorations to ensure the whole town will be in a festive mood. For residents in Cooroy and the surrounding areas, the Lanhams Cooroy Home Hardware Christmas Lights Competition with free entry gives the opportunity to win some great prizes. So unpack your tinsel, lights and decorating skills and make sure your decorations are up in the first week of December to be in the running.
For budding photographers, the Lewis Tyre and Mechanical Photographic Competition provides the opportunity to showcase your photographs and go in the running for some terrific photographic prizes. The theme this year is "Looking Our Your Back Door" and up to three photographs can be entered for only $5. Entries can be submitted at ISSA Creations in Emerald Street.
And for those of you with a crafty streak ISSA Creations is running two competitions - Xmas Scrappers Creations & Xmas Card Creations. Get down to ISSA Creations to get your competition pack today for your chance to win and the opportunity to have you creations showcased in Apex Park.
The winners of all the competitions will be announced at Apex Park on 8 December. It's important to note that the event couldn't be run without the tireless efforts of Cooroy Chamber of Commerce, Cooroy Rotary, Cooroy Pomona Lions Club, the Christmas in Cooroy Committee and our fantastic sponsors - Noosa Council, Wimmers, Zinc 96.1, Luke's Supa IGA Cooroy, Cooroy Rag, Bendigo Bank, Lanhams Cooroy Home Hardware, Queensland Media Print, Lewis Tyre & Mechanical, ISSA Creations, Cudgerie Homestead and Picture of Health.
