Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival 31 October - 4 November

Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival 31 October - 4 November
Footy Stars Head to Noosa Tri
Geelong may still be basking in Grand Final glory but they will be one of eight AFL teams heading to Noosa to tackle the Aussie Football Legends Triathlon on Saturday 3 November as part of the 2007 Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival and you could be part of all the action.
Although having a less than ideal 2007 season Richmond were the first to sign on for the Legends Triathlon and are sending their very best to get their 2008 season off to a winning start. The captain, Kane Johnson, vice captain, Nathan Brown, and Richmond's most decorated player Mathew Richardson will make up a formidable team.
"The boys are keen and enjoy coming up to Noosa for the whole weekend but we'll be making a game of it to win this tri after being beaten by girls last year," said Brown.
The 2006 title went to the celebrity team of Duncan Armstrong, Lorian Graham and Karla Gilbert.
A new addition to the line up this year is the Former Origin Greats (FOGS) team. Willie Carne, Gary Belcher and Dale Shearer all former State of Origin legends and Australian representatives will be in the run on side for the event.
The Brisbane Lions lethal combination that won them the Aussie Football Legends title in 2005 is expected to reform and challenge for the 2007 cup.
Simon Black leads out in the swim leg; Chris Scott's powerful cycle sets up Robbie Copeland to anchor the team in the run leg.
In a bid to keep the 2007 winning streak of Melbourne teams who dominated the past season in both codes the 'south' are also sending in some muscle.
Eight of the AFL's glamour clubs will contest a mark of a different kind, Adelaide Crows, West Coast Eagles, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Geelong and the Western Bulldogs. The Sydney Swans and South Sydney Rabbitoh's will fly the flag for Sydney while the Lions and Bronco's will fight to keep the title in Queensland.
Three players from each team will compete against each other in a modified version of the famous Noosa Triathlon.
They will show their skills on a different field along Noosa Parade in front of the VIP area and huge crowd that traditionally gathers along the strip for the start of Super Saturday, an afternoon of world class sport.
The players will each do one leg of the triathlon - 200m swim, 4.8km bike and 2km run. This will be a great platform for pre season training for the teams and will also help to expose them to a wider audience at the Festival. It will also be a great opportunity for the players to mix with athletes from other sports and enjoy the great festival atmosphere.
Introduced onto the program just three years ago it has grown significantly and each year attracts more codes, clubs and players wanting a Guernsey and is now one of the most eagerly anticipated events.
USM Events are providing opportunities for corporate sponsorship of the Legends Triathlon which will enable savvy minded businesses to get up close and personal at a series of functions with the stars. The Aussie Football Legends Triathlon gets underway from 2.30pm on Saturday 3 November and will be followed by the Women's Noosa Grand Prix, ASICS Bolt and Ridleys Dash for Cash featuring some of Australia's best runners and cyclists.
The Noosa Triathlon gets underway from 7:30am on Sunday 4 November 2007.

Australia's international superstars of cycling have confirmed they will be turning out to compete at the Ridley Dash for Cash on November 3.
Belgium: Ridley, have just announced a major sponsorship deal of the Noosa criterium race. Their investment will see the world's best cyclists compete for $50,000 - winner take all. An added incentive for the field is two $5000 primes provided by Cateye.
Event organizer, USM Events Managing Director Garth Prowd OAM welcomed the appointment of Ridley as the naming rights sponsor to this significant cycling showpiece on the Australian calendar, and a signature event as part of the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival program.
"We look forward to working with Ridley to further raise the profile of this event and their investment will attract European teams with interest from several ProTour teams," said Prowd.
Event Manager Geoff Meyer further announced the field would be an invitational race due to the tight circuit, restricting the field to 60 riders. Approximately 40 of the world's best riders will be issued invitations with the remaining 20 places decided through a regional qualifying series in September.
"Due to the increasingly high demand for places in the Ridley Dash for Cash and our Cycling Grand Prix races, holding qualifying events in regional Queensland will give those communities access to cycling expertise and get the sport into some new markets, ensuring its future growth and development," said Mr Meyer.
Since 1991, Ridley's commitment to innovative frame design and graphic detail have catapulted them into Belgium's number one road and cyclocross brand.
In 2003 Ridley released its first full carbon road frame, the Damocles, which was ridden to more than 100 professional victories in grand tours, spring classics, and more with Beglium-based ProTour team Davitamon-Lotto, now known as Predictor-Lotto.
The Noah made its debut at the 2006 Tour de France and was ridden to 5th place overall by Cadel Evans, and first place in the Sprint competition to green jersey winner Robbie McEwen, who also took three stages on his new bike.
"I always enjoy coming back to Noosa each November to ride in the criterium - all the boys do and the $50,000 will attract a super field and ensure that we all stay in shape after a hard European season," said McEwen.
Now, in 2007, Ridley offers a complete range of bicycles for every type of rider, including 5 complete carbon frames - 4 of which are used by professional teams.
Ridley founder and general manager Jochim Aerts commented, "We're very excited to be working with such a high-profile event in Australia.  We've always had a special affinity to Australia, strengthened of course with our relatioship with the Aussie riders on Predictor-Lotto."
The Ridley Dash for Cash will be the highlight of Super Saturday action at this year's 25th anniversary Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival held from Thursday 1 - Sunday 4 November.
