On Sunday 13 July Noosa is getting down and dirty once again for the annual Noosa Enduro - adventure mountain bike racing offering another exciting and challenging option for sports enthusiasts and certainly not for the feint hearted.
This year the Noosa Enduro promises to deliver some exciting new concepts. The team at USM EVENTS have been working hard in the off season to scout new and improved trails and have come up with a fantastic new route for the avid Enduro rider.
USM Events Noosa Enduro Project Manager Sam Adam says the growth in competitor numbers has forced the relocation of the start/finish from Tewantin to Stan Topper Park, Pomona, opening up a whole new playground of trails.
"This new course is unprecedented and simply outclasses any other MTB event we've ever seen," said Adam.
Evidenced by the fact that competitors are travelling from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT to take part.
The new look course offers the best of last years trails as well as some great new stuff that will not disappoint. The event incorporates two lively and diverse 50km courses. The intermediate 50km course is a faster flowing yet tantalizing loop de loop through the Ringtail State Forest, whereas the advanced 50km course loops out of Pomona; a gut busting, hill climbing route incorporating the mighty 'Mother', the Cooran tablelands and the descent into the township of Kin Kin. The 100km will combine the best of both worlds with the 50km racers having a choice of courses.
The course combines a mixture of open fire trail, rollercoaster single track, fast/technical descents, rock gardens and spectacular hinterland and ocean views from several 'look-outs' without having to leave the saddle.
If the new courses are not challenging enough, organisers have introduced a new category for the 100km - single speed, only one gear allowed.
The Noosa Enduro is an adrenaline filled pursuit for the mountain biker looking for a challenge.
The courses take in some of Noosa's prime off-road real estate and will take competitors through stunning tails, tracks, tablelands and major climbs The quickest riders will complete the 100km in less than five hours, some will need the 10 hour cut off time to finish.
The SHINE project, a Noosa Shire Council charity established 2004 will be the event beneficiary. The SHINE project supports the provision of services and infrastructure to assist victims of Domestic and Family Violence on the Sunshine Coast. To date they have built three houses in one week-end with the amazing support of community workers.
A total of $25,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs in the 100km event with categories for male and females covering; Open (18-39), Veteran (40-49), Vintage (50+), Single Speed. There is also a team's category, 3 competitors only. The 50km ride offers similar category options - Open (16-39), Veteran (40-49) and Vintage (50+) for male and female.
Anyone contemplating entering should do so with the correct preparation and fitness. The Noosa Enduro website has a number of helpful articles and tips on training and race preparation, detailed course terrain/maps for both events, advice for support crews, check points and much more.
