Queensland's anti-bullying expert and well-respected psychologist Dr
Michael Carr-Gregg will present a second series of free seminars for
parents, school leaders and school staff across the state between
February and September 2011.
Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson said Dr Carr-Gregg, whose first seminars were very well-received, would provide participants with further practical and effective advice on how to tackle bullying.
"Bullying and cyber-bullying have no place in our school communities and the Bligh Government is committed to the ongoing campaign against these complex, serious issues," Mr Wilson said.
"Every student has the right to learn in a positive, safe and caring environment where they can reach their full potential.
"The 2011 Working Together Against Bullying seminars will build on last year's series with a focus on promoting self-esteem and resilience in students, and practical strategies for dealing with bullying.
"Parents can learn about the different types of bullying, how to support their children if they are being bullied and how to work with teachers and schools if an issue arises.
"School leaders and staff will be able to discuss how to take effective action against bullying at their schools.
"Feedback from last year's seminars, which were attended by more than 3000 people, was overwhelmingly positive with participants appreciating Dr Carr-Gregg's frank, practical information and advice.
"Queensland is putting up a united front against bullying with the establishment in February last year of the Queensland Schools Alliance Against Violence (QSAAV) which brought together the State, Catholic and Independent sectors.
"Dr Carr-Gregg was appointed as Queensland's bullying expert in October 2010 to provide practical and on-going advice about ways to tackle bullying following the release of QSAAV's report and recommendations."
There will be 33 seminars in 11 locations across the state with workshops for school leaders, school staff and parents from State, Catholic and Independent schools in each location.
