Everyone loves a parade, especially one that rocks!
One of the highlights of the annual Christmas in Cooroy celebrations is the Street Parade which makes its way up Maple Street and back and attracts over 5,000 people into Cooroy. The Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank has once again boosted Cooroy’s celebrations by committing $21,000 or $7,000 per year for the next 3 years.
That’s big news for a community event that had humble beginnings only nine years ago and is now regarded as one of the real highlights on the Festive Season calendar on the Sunshine Coast. But you know you are on a winner when there are over 40 businesses and community groups that get together to celebrate.
Christmas in Cooroy is being held on Saturday, 7 December this year with the Bendigo Bank Street Parade commencing at 4.00pm. The theme for this year’s event is “Rock ’n’ Roll” and the team at the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank like many other businesses around Cooroy is already busily planning their float.
Event manager, Danielle Taylor says this year’s parade theme is sure to bring out the fun in everyone.
“The Bendigo Bank Street Parade is a great spectacle and thousands of people line the streets to watch the floats. The best float award is hotly contested with previous winners including Spiritus, Cooroy Rag and Cooroy State School who took out the title last year. Who knows which amazing entry will win this year? One thing is certain – it will be a colourful spectacle that no lover of Rock ‘n’ Roll will want to miss, “Danielle said.
“The Cooroy Community Bank branch’s sponsorship has been integral to the success of the event for many years now, but to have them support us for the next 3 years for such a generous amount is just incredible! There’s so much that goes into planning a free community event such as Christmas in Cooroy every year and it simply couldn’t be achieved without sponsorship from local businesses,” she added.
“Christmas in Cooroy has grown each year and so have the associated costs for everything from insurance to rides. The event is jointly hosted by the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Cooroy and there are approximately 30 sponsors and a host of volunteers that make the event a success,” she said.
Other major sponsors that have already agreed to sponsor this year’s event include Ricon Contractors who decorate the beautiful Christmas Tree in Maple Street that is switched on in its own ceremony on Friday 6 December. They are joined by Cooroy Hotel who sponsor the bar area in Apex Park and the Poet’s Breakfast, Cooroy Rag who provide advertising and fund the free rides in Apex Park, Cooroy Guardian Pharmacy who sponsor the photo competition, David Lafferty of Hinternoosa who sponsors the free face painting, Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing Group who sponsor The Great Santa Race and Stellar Conveyancing who sponsor the volunteer t-shirts. Sunshine Coast Council has also provided $5,000 funding through their Festive Season Strategy. There are still sponsorship opportunities (cash and in-kind) available by contacting Event Manager, Danielle Taylor on 0403 023 802 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
