$6,000 Book comes to town

The Noosa Library is going big-time next week, exhibiting a limited edition book that measures 50 cm x 50 cm, weighs 34 kg and will cost an impressive $6,000 to put on the family bookshelf - if you had one sturdy enough.

Library Services Manager Kerri Contini reports the 800-page tome is titled 'GOAT: A tribute to Muhammad Ali' and it will be on display at the Library in Wallace Park, Noosaville from October 11th to 16th.

"The volume is on loan from the Queensland Art Gallery," explains Ms Contini, "and contains 3000 photographs and art images and a sweeping range of interviews and essays chronicling the life of the boxing champion, Muhammad Ali.

"Publisher, Benedikt Taschen, has created a work that reflects the magnitude of Ali himself. It took four years in the making, comes in a silk box and was actually bound in pink leather by the Vatican Bindery. We are somewhat overwhelmed and delighted to be able to show off such a unique work in our Library. And, to balance the gender ledger, we will have another megabook on display, this one about the much celebrated Marilyn Monroe."
