19/06/2007 Heritage Walk Launch
'A Step Back in Time' is the title of this coming Saturday's launch of the Cooroy Heritage Walk, which will be opened by long-time local identity and history enthusiast Edna Smith at 12 noon, at the Cooroora Woodworkers Club on the corner of Myall and Maple Streets.
Sponsored by local soft drink manufacturer Wimmers, the opening ceremony will be followed by a free sausage sizzle and by a guided walk at 1.00 pm led by Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical & Historical Research Group local historian Ruth Kerr.
The walk will leave from the area between the Cooroy Butter Factory and the Woodworkers Club, a 1.6 km route proceeding along Maple Street, over the rail bridge to Diamond Street and returning to the Butter Factory precinct for afternoon tea.
Organiser Anne Warmbrunn said the Cooroy Heritage Walk takes approximately one hour and has 27 sites. "This is the third heritage walk undertaken by Noosa Council as an initiative of the Community Cultural Board (previously known as the Arts and Heritage Board) and developed in collaboration with the Genealogical & Historical Research Group," said Ms Warmbrunn. "The other two heritage walks are at Tewantin and Pomona and a brochure for the Cooroy project is currently under preparation."
