Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Public Information Meeting
Member for Noosa, Cate Molloy MP, is encouraging Noosa ratepayers to attend a public information meeting at the Bi-centennial Hall that will help to explain land-holder's rights and obligations under the State Government's Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act.
Ms Molloy last week met with a contingent of Noosa rate-payers to discuss concerns about the proposed cultural heritage overlay within Council's draft Planning Scheme and undertook to facilitate a public information meeting as soon as possible.
"There is obviously concern and confusion in some sectors of the community regarding Council's draft Planning Scheme and the State Government's Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act and I will do what I can to clear that up," Ms Molloy said.
"Noosa Council is also eager to assist and has offered to host the meeting.
"The Department of Natural Resources will be sending a representative from its Cultural Heritage Division and Council will also having planning staff on hand," she said.
Noosa Mayor, Bob Abbott, said these matters can be confusing and there needs to be clarity regarding State and Local Government responsibilities.
"This information session will provide an opportunity for rate payers to gain a better understanding of Council's Draft Noosa Planning Scheme and the State Government's Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act", Mr Abbott said.
The information session will take place Thursday 26 August at 7.00pm Noosa Bicentennial Community Centre, Bicentennial Drive (Off Ben Lexcen Drive), Sunshine Beach.
