The Hervey Bay sports community is being encouraged to get involved
in the Bligh Government's free Advanced sport strapping workshop on
Monday, 12 September.
Sport Minister Phil Reeves said the forum will greatly benefit local athletes, coaches, clubs and parents.
"The Sports Strapping workshop will provide free training for participants on the techniques of strapping for the prevention of injuries," Mr Reeves said.
"It will provide practical tools and demonstrations on various topics relating to strapping and injuries."
The three-hour Advanced sports strapping workshop will cover:
• How to perform a basic injury assessment;
• How to identify more serious injuries which require immediate medical assistance;
• The theory behind strapping of the knee, shoulder and wrist; and
• Practical demonstration of strapping of the knee, shoulder and wrist.
Mr Reeves said learning sports strapping techniques is a great tool to add to your skill set.
"We want to make sure those involved in the sport industry are fully equipped with the necessary skills to ensure a safe and enjoyable time for players," he said.
"Sport and recreation plays an important role in promoting healthy and active communities.
"It's crucial we provide opportunities to improve the skills of people involved in supporting these activities.
"As part of the Bligh Government's Toward Q2: Tomorrow's Queensland vision, we're committed to increasing the number of Queenslanders involved in their communities as volunteers by 50% by 2020.
"Volunteers are the backbone of the sport and recreation industry - on sporting fields and ovals, parks and beaches, volunteers give their valuable time to ensure Queenslanders are provided with quality opportunities to get active.
"Developing sport at the grassroots right up to the elite level heightens our chances of hosting events, and reinforces our reputation as the Champions State and the Events State as well.
"We've made the tough economic decisions to ensure we can continue to support local sport and recreation."
