Loads of fun for all the family!
Visitors will have the opportunity to pre-view the latest acquisition by QAM, THE LOCKHEED P-2 NEPTUNE. This has been a huge project at QAM. Firstly, we have been seeking this type of aircraft for over 25 years; Secondly, the aircraft acquired was in Mareeba so we had to send 14 volunteers to North Queensland in the midst of summer to prepare the Neptune for transport to Caloundra. 5 of the six trucks carrying the Neptune have arrived in Caloundra and some of the re-assembly has been commenced. The nose cone is expected any day now. Appreciate this is a large aircraft; wingspan 30.5 metres; length 23.7 metres; dry weight almost 16 tonnes!! So a mighty job by our volunteers to complete this project in just a couple of weeks, and now the work begins, to put it back together again.
