Art on Paper, Works from the Heart, an exhibition of lino cuts, etchings and collographs by Shirley Strano

Opening 2.00 pm Sunday July 9 by Chris Cooper, coordinator of Wallace House Press gang

Art On Paper - Works of the Heart, is the work of self - confessed obsessive artist Shirley Strano. Shirley is a graduate of the Qld. College of Art and has been a Print Council of Australia commissioned artist.  Her work is in corporate and institutional collections.

Shirley concentrates on linocuts, etching and collagraphs about her place of the heart the Sunshine Coast Hinterland where she has lived most of her life with her poet husband John.  Having travelled the world she says this is the one place she was meant to be.  It has entered her blood and arteries.  The landscape is so strong with ancient wallum plains and the cores of extinct volcanos with mystical names, Cooroy, Eewah, Tibrogargan, Cooroora, and Coonowrin.  These mountains have been here for an Australian length of time. The bones show and the mighty tectonic forces of the distant past are clearly evident.

Also exhibited are linocuts about artefacts brought home from New Guinea by Shirley's father during the Second World War.  These relate to the sadness and loss of children missing their father and the experience of an almost stranger returning to the family.
