Aussie, Aussie, Aussie January 11th, 2006
Australia Day will take a youthful slant in Noosa this year, with young musicians performing during celebrations to be hosted by Council in the shady riverfront Noosaville Lions Park on Gympie Terrace, on Thursday, January 26th.
Acting Mayor Frank Pardon said today that as well as having a new venue, the event will run over an extended period : "all the way to lunchtime, with a dinki di barbecue being dished up by the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club.
"We plan to kick off with an Aussie breakfast party, cooked by members of the Rotary Club of Noosa Heads between 7.00 and 9.00," explained Cr Pardon. "And towards the end of that time slot, around 8.15 we will have our traditional classic cars parade, starting from Albert Street and progressing along Gympie Terrace, accompanied by the Noosa District Pipe Band.
" The ceremonial part of the celebrations will take place between 9.00 and 10.00 with over 100 people due to become Australian citizens and six outstanding individuals being presented with Noosa Shire Australia Day Awards in various categories.
"From 10 am to 1.00 pm we will stage performances by 'Australia Day Unplugged' bands and solo performers from Creative Noosa's Creative Careers Music Mentoring programme."
Noosa Shire's 2006 Australia Day celebrations will be presented by Creative Noosa and proudly supported by Noosa Party Hire, 96.1 HEAT, the Rotary Club of Noosa Heads, and the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club.
