On December 8, Queensland Air Museum will be hosting a very special event.
Many will know the centre piece exhibit at Queensland Air Museum is its F-111C A8-129. On December 8 QAM will release 100 numbered prints of John Best’s painting. ‘Australia at Last’ showing the first feet of Australian F-111’s coming to Australia after more than 10 years in the planning , development and testing phase.
John Best is a noted aviation artist, a member of QAM since inception in 1974 and a lifelong aviation enthusiast.
The prints will be signed, on the day, by Squadron Leader, Wal Walters, the RAAF pilot who flew F-111C A8-129 to Australia from the USA in 1973. Wal, an honorary member of QAM with a distinguished career in the RAAF, is coming up from his home in Kiama, NSW for the event. Wal joined the RAAF from school and has flown in Malaya (now Malaysia) and Vietnam before being posted to the Nellis US Air force base for training on the new F-111 in 1968. Wal has flown two more of QAM’s exhibits, the Canberra bomber A84-225 and the Winjeel A85-410, quite a feat!
The members of Queensland Air Museum thank both John and Wal for their contribution to ‘Preserving Australia’s Aviation Heritage’.
100 signed and numbered prints will be available from the QAM shop from December 8.
