The Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards celebrate the contribution of individuals, community organisations and businesses in the region. These prestigious awards are designed to pay tribute to those who make extraordinary contributions to society or who are outstanding achievers in the community.

Council is calling for nominations of outstanding locals to be recognised at the fourth annual Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards.

How to nominate

The awards will be presented in the following categories:



    Sport and recreation
    Senior Citizen of the Year
    Young Citizen of the Year

Make a nomination online. (Nominations will be assesed in accordance with the categories, criteria and conditions of entry).

Nomination forms are also available from council's customer service centres and libraries, or the Sunshine Coast University and TAFE. Alternatively, you can download the entry kit [PDF 600KB].

Winners of the awards will be announced at council's Australia Day Awards ceremony on Wednesday 25 January 2012 at the Baptist Centre, North Buderim.

Winners of the 2011 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards

Mayor Bob Abbot presented the 2011 in the following categories:

    Community – Glenda Lloyd, Aroona
    Creative – Cynthia Morgan, Caloundra
    Business – Amber Werchon, Alex Headlands
    Environment – Leigh Warneminde, Yaroomba
    Sport and Recreation – Guy Tanner, Mudjimba
    Senior Citizen of the Year – Kevin Franzi, Kenilworth
    Young Citizen of the Year – Joint winners, Manuel Barth, Currimundi and Nathanael Ford, Pomona

The Outstanding Achievement Award was created and awarded to Jessica Watson to honour her exceptional accomplishment of circumnavigating the globe solo at such a young age.
