Eventful Library 4 May 2005
National and international award-winning author Anthony Eaton will be guest speaker at the Noosa Library at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, June 1st.
Following the publication of three books, Anthony gave up teaching to become a full-time writer. The former security guard, car park attendant, sailing instructor and rowing coach (and English, Politics, Philosophy, Theatre Arts and History University student) will be coming to Noosa directly from the annual Voices on the Coast Writers Festival, held at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Reputedly a sparkling speaker with lots of verve and humour, Anthony was born in Papua New Guinea in 1972 and after moving to Perth with his family lived in the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean. His first novel Karijini, was rejected by every publisher in Australia (and quite rightfully so, says Anthony), but his second attempt : The Darkness was scooped up in 2000 by The University of Queensland Press.
After successfully publishing two more books, A New Kind of Dreaming in 2001 and Nathan Nuttboard Hits the Beach in 2002, Anthony resigned from teaching at the end of 2002. He has since written Fireshadow (2004) and The Girl in the Cave (2004) and is currently working on a new trilogy of Sci-fi novels whilst also completing his PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Western Australia. (Fireshadow has just been short-listed by the Children's Book Council of Australia in the Book of the Year for Older Readers category.
His book for younger readers, The Girl in the Cave was also published in French. He now lives in Perth with his wife Imogen, and their puppy Chelsea - a German shepherd / Kelpie who likes digging and ripping things up.
Bookings may be made at the Library on 5442 4411 and $5.00 will be payable at the door to cover refreshments.
