BACH ODYSSEY: musicians take classics on the road
After two years of producing the groundbreaking Dreaming BIG concert series in the tiny township of Eudlo, Sunshine Coast, Louise King, a musician quoted by The Australian as 'exuding a vigorous artistry' is embarking on a regional tour to Bundaberg, Gold Coast, Byron, Cooran and Montville, Sunshine Coast.
Cello Dreaming will tour BACH ODYSSEY from 27 August - 4 September, celebrating the music, life and legacy of baroque composer, Johann Sebastian Bach featuring solo cello music with sparkling harpsichord performed with guest international artist Huguette Brassine. The program features suites for solo cello, a viola da gamba sonata plus well-known works such as Arioso, Air, Gavotte and Bourrée from Bach’s D major orchestral suite.
Across the globe, audiences flock to experience the intimacy and meditative power of Bach’s music. Artists paint to his music, dancers move, poets write, and now you can experience what it is about his music that still endures and captures the imagination hundreds of years since creation. Louise King explains why this may be so. “Bach’s music is complex, rich in invention and polyphony. You hear in colour with a myriad of voices to explore. The baroque dance feel is so present and euphoric. It is like stepping back in time. Bach’s music is for the head, heart and soul.”
If you rarely have the opportunity to experience classical music in concert, you are in for a rare treat as cellist Louise King is widely known for her virtuosity and refinement and breaks down the barriers of listening to classical music with an easy-going stage presence. Louise King says, “I am passionate about presenting classical music experiences in small communities and finding new innovative ways to open up music for people. I think that having more access to quality live performing art experiences regardless of where you live really matters to social health, as it brings people together across the generations and social demographic to experience something together.”
