About the Choir
The Mapleton Choir is a mixed SATB Choir, based (naturally) in Mapleton and has a proud record of continuous performance over 27 years. We have about 45 members and, as a Community Choir we do not hold auditions for membership. We sing an eclectic mixture of music from the classics and opera through folk and show music to contemporary pieces. Many of the pieces we sing have been arranged especially for us by our accompanist, who of course knows our strengths and weaknesses very well. Our Musical Director has been with us for some three years and has a background in musical theatre but has a wide range of musical interests. We present two major concert series each year (with each series comprising two concerts at our home base plus a couple of reprises at local institutions) together with a Concert at Christmas (which does not necessarily include only Christmas music).
We are also in demand to perform at various local occasions (Australia Day, local special events, festivals etc) and we sometimes send smaller groups to these rather than the full choir, depending on availability of members (balance being the critical point). In the last couple of years we have been singing to full houses at our concerts, so we must be doing something right.
We rehearse each Monday evening for two hours and members are requested to do some practice at home so that we do not spend too much time on actually learning the notes - cassette tapes or audio CDs are provided to assist; of course music scores are provided, to be returned after the concert. Some of our members do not read music and we seek to provide some training for those that would like to learn; for those that would like to improve their vocal ability we have a couple of members who are happy to provide coaching.
All Sunshine Coast events, gigs, functions etc... onsite are correct as per information provided at time of uploading, please always verify times or dates directly with the venues to avoid disappointment.
