A hilarious romp starts off the Noosa Arts theatrical year. In the tradition of Hello Hello, a quiet French village near the German border becomes the backdrop for bizarre confusion and embarrassing situations.
Author, David Freeman is a master of comedy, having written Benny Hill shows, Carry On scripts and scripts for Tony Hancock, Frankie Howard, Arthur Askey and Terry Scott. Bedfull of Foreigners is his most well known play and ran for 18 months in the West End in 1973.
The action takes place in a hotel, run á la Fawlty Towers, on the eve of a local Saint's Festival. There are all the ingredients associated with fast moving farce: mistaken identities, a double-booked bedroom, inefficient staff and hasty cover-ups. Seductions and confrontations run rampant throughout this hilarious play.
Director, Ian Mackellar, played Jimmy Perry in The Gingerbread Lady which he also directed and for which he won the STAR award for the best Director of a drama/black comedy. Ian has also written several musicals (book, music and lyrics) and wrote and directed Now that's Entertainment which played at Noosa Arts in 2006 and also directed They're Playing Our Song last year.
Ian has assembled a fabulous cast for this production. Frank Wilkie showed his gift for comedy in the Noosa Arts productions of The Odd Couple and Take a Chance on Me. Matt Dunstan is a scream on stage at any time as patrons of the Drag Bingo night and the Noosa Arts Awards night will know. His role as hotel manager sets him up for some zany situations. The glamorous Sonia Petrack, star dancer in Cabaret and nightclub singer, Ruby Red, in Now That's Entertainment along with award winning actress, Leona Kirby, and popular musician, Kitten, all revel in the fun of the risqué pandemonium. Ben Leiman and Alan Stewart have the gift of the dead pan expression when needed and a real talent for comedy.
