NPA Friday Environment Forum

"Think Global, Act Local" this Friday morning, July 18th at the Environment Centre, Wallace Park

This week's NPA Friday Forum guest speaker at 11.15am, Janet Millington Co-founder of South Coast Energy Action Centre, will discuss 'Peak Oil' and what it means  - looming food and fuel shortages along with extreme prices.  Janet will also share good news - that the Sunshine Coast has been awarded recognition and status as the first Transition Town region in Australia!  She will explain how this can help us to 'move from oil dependency to local resilience'  by relocalising communities, growing edible gardens, becoming less wasteful,  recycling more goods and caring more about the effect that our consumer decisions can have on developing nations and subsequently on the environment.

Janet is an environmental permaculture educator who brings fun and a strong sense of empowerment, as she helps others to become more aware and to learn practical skills for self-sufficiency, better health and lower living costs.

Just before Janet's talk at 11am,  David Heckendorf, will also give a brief presentation - about a proposal which could potentially stabilise the constant beach erosion problem at the former Dog Beach and Noosa Spit area.

Everyone is welcome to come along for the whole morning at the Environment Centre, Wallace Park, or just to hear guest speakers.  You can join Valda and the Bird Observers group for Interpretive birding from 8.30am; enjoy morning coffee from 10am; participate in the Environment  Forum from 10.30am and listen to guest speakers from - midday.
