"...They make it seem all so natural and effortless. It's rock music with equal parts brain and heart." Richard Kingsmill, Triple J
"...They sound like a rock band that has come of age on this album...". *** Iain Shedden, The Australian
"Perth's Birds of Tokyo has pulled out all stops to take its searing rock into brand new heights of other worldly sounds... Birds Of Tokyo haven't merely arrived. They've smashed the door down." *** Sunday Herald Sun
BIRDS OF TOKYO is an album that carries with it the weight of one man's world... the entire emotional gamut of a love lost, and the broken heart it left in its wake; set to music of depth and complexity. And it is this journey into such deeply personal territory that makes this the band's most resonant album, because broken hearts are universal and timeless.
It's actually the group's third studio album, but it's their most critically acclaimed, which helps explain why it had their highest ever chart debut and is now certified Platinum.
At the 2010 ARIA Awards, Birds of Tokyo not only received 6 nominations, but walked away with their first ever ARIA for Best Rock Album. They also delivered one of THE performances of the night; propelling 'Plans" higher up the iTunes chart than any other performance on the night. adding to the accolades they were named Band Of The Year at the GQ Awards and most recently they received the publicly voted Rolling Stone's Reader's Choice Award whilst 'Plans' was voted #4 in Triple J's Hottest 100.
In touring news, Birds Of Tokyo have just come off the road after receiving rave reviews for their performances on the Big Day Out. The band have also recently been announced as one of the headlining artists on the Groovin' The Moo Festival which tours regional Australia throughout May.
