Maroochy Blesses beaches and water rescue services

Maroochy Shire Council will celebrate another safe season on its beaches and waterways by hosting the annual Blessing of the Beaches and Water Rescue Services this Friday at Mooloolaba Beach.

Host, Maroochy Shire Council CEO, Kelvin Spiller, will welcome guests and visitors from 4.00pm at the Loo with a View, Mooloolaba.

Maroochy Mayor, Alison Grosse, will open official proceedings by thanking emergency authorities and presenting Certificates of Appreciation to all rescue agencies.

Queensland Police Service District Inspector, Merv Neilson, will respond on behalf of all local rescue agencies.

Member for Kawana, Chris Cummins MP, representing the Minister for Emergency Services, will speak about emergency services at the State level.
Maroochy Shire Councillor Bruce Dunne, Chairman of the Sunshine Coast Beach and Water Safety Committee, will highlight beach and water safety services and outcomes at a local level.

From 4.40pm, Father Joe Duffy and Father Richard Gowty will perform a multi-denominational Blessing of the beaches and water rescue services. 

Mr Clive Sharp, Maroochy Shire Lifeguard and volunteer crewman of the Sunshine Coast Helicopter Rescue Service, will provide a commentary to the rescue demonstration involving the cooperation of multiple services.

The Maroochy SES Unit will hold a FREE community sausage sizzle following the event.
