In their quest to establish the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival in September 2005, the Arts Council Sunshine Coast Inc.'s Blues ACT are hosting a 'rent party' fund raiser.
Rent parties originated in the US where poor muso.s would hold parties at home to raise money for rent. They would gather their friends, who would bring an instrument, or an improvised instrument like a tub bass or washboard and play.
Blues heals, uplifts and inspires. Many people on the coast got their first taste of blues at the now-defunct Woombye Blues Club. So, our rent party will be at the Woombye Memorial Hall - birthplace of Blues on the Sunshine Coast.
It will kick off at 7pm on Saturday, 16th April, 2005. Bringing their instruments are the good folks from "Blue Rhythm Kings", "Chardonnay Sippers", Michelle Brown, Peter Steele, "Chevallum Moonshine" and "The Big Easy" with guest artists including Jane-Michelle, Kath Williams, Barry Charles and more!
That's a wang dang doodle for a measly $12 (only $10 for artsun members!) The Sunshine Coast Blues Festival depends on the success of this fundraiser, so forget greens - if you haven't had enough blues in your diet lately, get along to the Blues Rent Party. Having a great night here will help bring about the Blues revival on the coast.
This is great news for Blues musicians, Blues afficionados and a whole horde of virgin ears yet to discover the joy in the Blues.
