The Honourable Robert Schwarten
Sunshine Coast builders urged to learn more about subsidence
The Queensland Building Services Authority (BSA) will hold a FREE seminar on subsidence at the Waterfront Hotel on Wednesday, Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten said today.
"Sunshine Coast builders will have the chance to learn best practice methods for avoiding subsidence problems on building projects at one of the BSA's Trade Specific Seminars," Mr Schwarten said.
"In the current economic climate, the last thing Queensland builders or homeowners need is to be spending money fixing costly defects.
"The cost of rectifying defective work that has caused footing and slab movement in domestic homes commonly exceeds $100,000 and in a number of recent cases the damage was more than double this figure.
"Over the last two financial years, BSA has received just over 1400 complaints against builders involving subsidence with the majority of these involved with the residential building sector."
Mr Schwarten said the seminars would combine a t echnical DVD and useful advice from an industry expert.
"Builders will be given a step-by-step guide through BSA's Subsidence Policy and insurance requirements.
"These seminars are part of the Queensland Government's strategies to educate and assist licensees and help keep them afloat in these tough times," he said.
The BSA is holding Trade Specific Seminars around the state on different topics each month.
