Planning for a district park gets underway in Buderim

Buderim residents, traders and visitors can provide input into the development and design of a new district park in Buderim by attending 'meet us in the street' sessions during August.

Council will host three 'meet us in the street' sessions in Burnett Street, Buderim on 21, 26 and 28 August.

The sessions will give residents the chance to put forward their views and opinions and share what elements they would like incorporated into the design of the park.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said that he was expecting locals to be very interested in the development of this site.

"We want to take everyone on the journey in developing this park," Cr Dickson said.

"Right now we are at the very initial design stage, the only given is the size of the land and its zoning as a district level park.

"That leaves a lot of room for community input and we welcome hearing from residents, traders and visitors what they would like to see in the park."

The sessions will be held outside the NAB bank, Burnett Street, Buderim:

*         21 August, 9am -- 11am

*         26 August, 3pm -- 5.30pm

*         28 August, 9am -- 11am.

Council staff will be on hand to record feedback and comments and provide information.

For those unable to attend a session, questionnaires can be found at council's website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au Buderim Library and the Old Post Office, Buderim.

Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford said there is only a certain amount allocated in the 2010/11 financial year.

"Council purchased the land in early 2010 for $8.75million," Cr Hungerford said.

"This is a big project and it won't happen overnight.

"At the moment, we're looking at the design. Once this is complete, there is a nominal amount of money in this year's budget to start on basic preparation works.

"Each year, council will review the project and allocate funds accordingly.

"This process might take a few years, but that's why it's important for residents to have their say, so we can get the staging of works right."
