Scenic fun run follows foreshore
The morning jog is far from routine at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast where a run along the Coastal Walk offers views that take your breath away, and the ocean breeze carries the sound of the surf along with every stride.
The Caloundra Coastal Walk is a network of pathways and boardwalks that is the venue for Queensland's most scenic fun run on Sunday morning, May 29.
The Caloundra Foreshore Fun Run hugs the Pumicestone Passage Marine Park from Bell's Creek at Golden Beach to Bulcock Beach and then around the Caloundra Headland taking in the spectacular scenery at Kings Beach and Shelly Beach before finishing at Moffat Beach.
Entry forms and further information is available at www.accomcaloundra.com.au. All money raised will be donated to the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School.
Categories include a 10klm event for more experienced runners, or the 3klm course designed for children and young families.
Former Brisbane Broncos and international rugby league player, Kerrod Walters, has already submitted his entry for the longer race.
The 10klm assembly point is Jensen Park at the southern end of Golden Beach from 7am (cost $20 which includes event T-shirt). The 3klm race assembly is at Moffat Beach Park at 8.15am (family $20, individual $10, student $5).
Organising committee spokesperson Julieanne Dunn said the entire run followed the water and was billed "as the most scenic in Queensland."
"The fun run is over a beautiful course and is open to runners of all standards, particularly the shorter course which is ideal for young families, or people who just want to enjoy a brisk stroll," Mrs Dunn said.
Prizes include $50 food and drink vouchers for first place male and female in each category (youth, under 19, open 20-35 years, masters over 36). A family bike will be the random draw prize up for grabs for everyone entered in the 3klm event, and a luxury holiday weekend is to be drawn from runners completing the 10klm course.
Caloundra Tourism Inc president Mike Wilkinson said the fun run was a great add-on for a short break that included Sunshine Coast Ladies Oaks Day at Corbould Park racecourse on Friday, May 27.
