Auction opens: Wednesday 26th September 1PM AEST. Auction closes: Wednesday 3rd October 7PM AEST

Twenty-one celebrity memorabilia items including new Reebok jogging shoes signed by international pop singing sensation, ‘Pink’; signed 2012 National Rugby League shirts from the Roosters, Bulldogs and Broncos teams; a signed Australian Football League Brisbane Lions shirt; cricket bats signed by the Australian and Queensland Cricket Teams; a signed racing car helmet worn by Australian tennis star, Pat Rafter in the 2003 Melbourne Grand Prix Celebrity Challenge; and a number of limited edition plates signed by six Australian celebrity chefs will be auctioned to raise funds for burns survivors via  Australian online auction company, Grays Online.

Organisers of the auction, Sunshine Coast business women, Margit Cruice and Kylie Brownrigg, originally collected the items to raise funds to assist local chef, husband and father, Matt Golinski who tragically lost his wife and children in a house fire last December. Matt received third degree burns to over 40% of his body as a result of the blaze. At Matt’s suggestion the items will now be auctioned nationally with the proceeds directed to help other burns survivors through the national, not-for-profit registered charity, the Peter Hughes Burn Foundation.

“Matt and Rachael were valued members of our school community and our children were friends of Starlia, Willow and Sage, Margit said.

“Since the terrible tragedy we have been working hard to help raise funds for Matt’s physical and emotional recovery, Margit said.

“After staging a raffle and concert at the school earlier this year we were gifted these items from generous and kind celebrities.

“At Matt’s suggestion the proceeds of the auction will be used to help burns survivors nationally via the Peter Hughes Burn Foundation.

“Matt has already received some valuable practical support from this organisation and the auction proceeds will continue to not only help Matt but other burns survivors nationwide.”

The Peter Hughes Burn Foundation is a national, not-for-profit registered charity which offers free support to burn survivors and their carers to assist with physical and emotional recovery from burns injuries. It provides forums where burn survivors are able to connect with each other, building a community of support to develop and strengthen physical, emotional, psychological and social resilience.

Peter Hughes has first-hand experience regarding the pain and trauma that burns injuries can cause. Prior to setting up his charity he suffered extensive burns as a result of being caught in the Bali bombings of October 2002.

“As well as the physical pain associated with burn injuries, there are a number of other issues that may be experienced,” Peter said.

“These may extend to the need for career retraining, how to deal with the strain of changes to family relationships, issues with self worth and body image, and how to deal with emotions such as survivor guilt or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Each person deals with their situation differently.

“It is only through working together that we will reduce the incidence of burn trauma and improve the lives of those who have suffered burn injuries.

“Of course, I wish there wasn’t a need for an organisation such as ours, but as long as people continue to suffer the traumatic effects of burns injuries, we’ll be there to give them support.

“The proceeds of this auction will help us to provide more services to more burn survivors such as the Living Skills Enhancement Retreat that Matt Golinski and others recently attended.  Our work really makes a difference to people’s lives.”
