Festival of Thought 2016

Moderator: Paul Barclay ABC Radio National

You might just be able to put up with them one at a time, but together, they are a real challenge to the practical workings of democracy. They are:

  • Communication of policy via the “30 second grab”
  • The changing nature of “news” – the 24 hours news cycle and the pressure this imposes on politicians and commentators
  • Policy debate reduced to 140 letters of a Twitter feed
  • The impact of social media; and, not to forget
  • The insidious effect of overblown political correctness
