Community encouraged to "Speak Out" on Civic Square design entries

This Sunday, Maroochy Shire Council is encouraging residents to attend a community forum to provide feedback and comments to help shape the development and future direction of an exciting new project for Maroochydore - the Civic Square precinct.

Maroochy Mayor, Alison Grosse, said the Civic Square precinct was a major project for the community and residents were invited to attend an interactive forum called "Speak Out" at Cotton Tree Park on Sunday 25 January between 9am and 1pm.

"The Civic Square competition aims to improve the urban quality of the Central Business District by providing a vibrant, safe and attractive public space in the heart of Maroochydore," Cr Grosse said.

"The Speak Out forum gives the community an opportunity to view the ten design entries and speak with Council staff who will be on hand to answer questions and explain the design concepts."

"Residents are then encouraged to share their comments, provide feedback and vote for the three design entries they consider most appropriate for further design investigation during stage two of the Civic Square Precinct competition."

A number of activities for children have been arranged for the day, including the chance for them to have their say by participating in a 'hand painted' vote. Input from a workshop held at the Maroochydore State Primary School, where students expressed their views on the future of the Civic Square, will also be on display.

"We are looking forward to a winning entry that is not only imaginative and sustainable but also reflects the views of all sectors of the community, including the views of our youth," Cr Grosse said.
