Search for the Coast's Young Comic Talent
Sunshine Coast Council is partnering with the Melbourne organisers to present Class Clowns, a national youth comedy competition and workshop program, for the first time on the coast.
Free Crash Course workshops are being offered mid-March at council venues in Noosa, Nambour and Lake Kawana.    Coinciding with the Comedy Festival's Touring Roadshow, the Class Clowns Heat will be at the Nambour Civic Centre Theatre on Friday 23 April 2010.
Class Clowns acts can enter through their school or independently as an individual, duo or trio.
Class Clowns, a national comedy competition, is hunting for young budding comedians who can crack up the professionals of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF).
The competition has been run by MICF since 1996 and is aimed at young people aged 14 to 17 years (or in Year 9 to 12).
Sunshine Coast Class Clowns Producer Gail Hewton Class Clowns holds workshops and performances in every capital city and some regional areas, and takes the funniest acts to Melbourne for a spectacular, sold-out Grand Final.
"Young people are full of creative ideas and can be hilarious.  This is a great opportunity for those budding comedians to channel their comic inventiveness and be introduced to the mainstream of comedy practice," said  Ms Hewton.
Class Clowns has been the launching pad for dozens of professional Australian comedians including Queenslander Josh Thomas who's now a regular on television's Talkin' Bout Your Generation, she said.
At a Class Clowns gig, participants who have prepared up to five minutes of stand-up or group sketch, musical parody, or something in between, participate in a workshop with a professional, practising comedian before performing on stage to a public audience.
The winner goes to the Queensland State Final, and can go on to the Nationals in Melbourne, to compete for $2000 in cash and prizes.
