Classic Malibu Pro
Presented by Cobain and Hot Tuna
Event 1 2005/2006 Australian Longboard Circuit (ALC)
Noosa Heads
26th & 27th November 2005

This weekend will see Australia's best longboarders make their way to the Sunshine Coast for the Classic Malibu Pro, the venue for the event the World famous points of Noosa Heads. The Classic Malibu Pro presented by Cobian and Hot Tuna, is now the richest longboard event on the prestigious Australian Longboard Circuit (ALC). The event will now offer competitors a slice of a lucrative $12,500 prizemoney over three divisions for Australia's best professional longboarders. The first event of the 2005/2006 Australian Longboard Circuit will now offer $10,000 prizemoney to the men, $1500 to the women and a specialty "Noserider" division showcasing the country's best noseriders battling it out for $1000 cash. Arguably the Classic Malibu Pro presented by Cobian and Hot Tuna not only boasts the biggest prize purse on the ALC tour, but also the best longboard location on the planet!

The field is strong and a number of surfers will be vying for the prizemoney and valuable ALC ratings points. 2005 ALC Champion, and 2005 Australian Open Champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach, NSW) obviously shapes as one of the favourites to take out the win after winning the Australian Open Title only last month on the Sunshine Coast. But Ingleby will face some strong competition from a red hot field of Sunshine Coast locals. Leading the charge will be 2005 ALC runner-up Josh Constable, the Noosa local will be hard to beat on his home break as well, but will face a strong challenge from Maroochydore surfer Grant Thomas, who finished 4th in the 2005 ALC ratings, plus Coolum brothers Bart and Seb Wilson, and Sunshine Beach surfer Brett White who finished 8th in the 2005 ALC. Gold Coast surfers will be out to grab a slice of the $10,000 prize pool, none keener than defending Classic Malibu Pro champion Jackson Close. Close also finished 2nd in the 2005 ALC rating and to post another win in the first event of the series would a great way for the Currumbin surfer to kick-off the 2005/2006 ALC.

New South Wales longboarders will be turning up in numbers to grab the cash from their Queensland counterparts, not only is Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach) a surfer to watch, but also talented surfers like Michael Bellamy (Safety Beach, NSW), Dave Simons and Jared Neal (Coffs Harbour, NSW), Ian Bell, and Ruben Roxburgh (Evans Head) will be making their way to Noosa Heads.

Competition will be strong in the Women's division as well, Australia Champion Chelsea Williams will be out to keep up her outstanding form, but will have other longboarding ladies on her tail, including Tessa Davidson who was runner-up in the 2005 Australian Longboard Titles, and experienced campaigner Lisa Nicholson who not only placed 3rd in the Open Women's division at the Australian Longboard Titles, but also won the Over 35 years women's division as well. Young Coolangatta charger Selby Riddle will also be another surfer to watch.

Organisers, Surfing Queensland, will be watching the swell maps closely, monitoring conditions, hoping for a classic swell for the Classic Malibu Pro, so Australia's best longboarders can showcase their talents on the world famous point breaks of Noosa Heads.
