Climate Change Relay

On the 21st of September events are being organised around to world to call on our leaders, who will be meeting at a climate summit on the 23rd, to take strong action on climate change. To add the voice of the Sunshine Coast to this global chorus, SCEC is organising a relay that will cover the length of the coast. Starting at the Sunshine Beach SLSC at sunrise, we will walk along the beach to arrive at Kings Beach in Caloundra just on sunset. We have divided the route into 35 sections of approximately 20 minutes each (click here to see the relay schedule) and we are inviting everyone on the Sunshine Coast to come and join us for one or more sections of the journey.

Why are we doing this?

Climate change is real, climate change is happening now, climate change will affect every facet of our community, coastal communities are at increased and ….. our ‘leaders’ are failing us.

Climate change will not just change the temperature and rainfall, nor will it just mean more or more intense storms. It means the very weather patterns that have shaped our region will change, the wind, the waves, the currents, the vegetation …. will all change, and with them our beaches, our dunes and our surf breaks ….. will all change.

The Climate Change  relay allows us to enjoy our region and walk along our beautiful beaches as we think about what climate change will mean for the Sunshine Coast and let decision makers know that the people of the Sunshine Coast care about climate change and want real leadership on this issue.
