Caloundra Community Safety Seminar to be held
Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle will host a Community Safety and Storm Season Seminar at the CCSA Hall, 1 Nutley St Caloundra, on Friday, 26th August from 9.30am.
The Seminar will feature guest speakers including representatives from Energex and the SES informing people on how to ensure their home is storm ready and what to do in the event of a natural disaster emergency.
“The Sunshine Coast is not immune from severe weather events and it’s important for local residents to get ready and protect their properties ahead of the summer storm season,” Mr McArdle said.
“This is a great opportunity for people to come along and hear some important information so they don’t get stuck in a dangerous situation one day.
“To date, Caloundra has not been hit by the worst of a storm but every day that passes the odds reduce of that occurring.
“Complacency is not an excuse and the best way to deal with these events is to be prepared.”
Topics to be discussed at the seminar include:
Earlier this month authorities warned local residents to be prepared for a severe weather event with large rainfall, damaging winds and flooding.
The SES was first established in 1975. SES data shows one hour of operations reflects approximately 10 hours in training and preparation. In 2010/11 the SES performed 175,000 operational hours, this equals a potential 1.75 million hours in preparation.
