One of the highlights on the coast’s events calendar is not far away, and on 25 October, Coolum Carnival will celebrate its 16th year.

The carnival will see thousands heading to Coolum State School and the annual night-time event has again attracted strong support from many local businesses. Far from being a ‘school community’ event, the celebration will draw the young and the young at heart as they descend on the school for their local taste of a fairground fix.

One of those businesses is the Marcoola Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank, who has once again put their weight behind the event and the school. Last year they came to the rescue as the major sponsor after a long running sponsorship from Luke’s IGA ended.

Community Bank Branch manager and long time supporter of Coolum Carnival, Judy Blackall said the carnival continues to encapsulated Coolum’s community spirit.

“As locals we all know it’s a big event. It’s important for the kids, the family and most of all, the school as this is their big fund raiser for the year - and the whole community gets involved. If you haven’t been before, you really should see why we all love coming back every year,” Judy said.

“For years both of my children were here and past students and their parents continue to have a soft spot for the carnival, returning to enjoy the rides, stalls, food and fireworks in a safe, family friendly atmosphere. The fact that it starts in the afternoon and finishes at a time reasonable for families is another reason why Coolum Carnival become known as one of the area’s leading community celebrations. Our Community Bank branch is delighted to be lending its support again this year, and if you haven’t been to the ‘Pig Brother’ stall make sure you get along - it’s a crowd favourite!” Judy added.

In the coming weeks, the entire school community will pitch in to help out in creating what is a massive temporary show ground for the many show bag and food and drink stalls and entertainment stages that will sit alongside a sideshow alley that is comparable to any Brisbane show.

But, perhaps the best Coolum Carnival experience of all will be the final moments when a brilliant fireworks display will signal a close to the evening at 8.30pm.

“The Carnival is very fortunate to have again receive fantastic support from the many and varied businesses in our community. We have all sorts of great prizes on offer this year, including bikes and a host of other items,” Coolum State School Principal Pat Cavanagh said.

“Their on-going support is greatly appreciated and ensures a successful event for all sectors of the community. Funds from this year’s event will go towards putting curtains in each classroom in the school to get full benefit when using technology and refurbishing some of the outdoor play and learning areas”

The fun starts when the gates open at 3:30pm, Friday 25 October at Coolum State School.
