Lifeline Community Care Sunshine Coast is once again holding its annual Father’s Day event, Doing Dads Proud, this September 4th and this year we’re asking the community to lend a helping hand.
This year the event is focusing on suicide intervention for men. Doing Dads Proud is being held at Cotton Tree Park in conjunction with Cotton Tree Pool and is a long-standing free community event that draws families together in celebration of our dads.
Doing Dads Proud is asking for community donations to ensure the continuation of the event, and to make it bigger and better than ever.
Lifeline Community Care has launched a Doing Dads Proud fundraising page to help acquire the funds needed to run a successful event in 2011.

Lifeline Sunshine Coast’s Telephone Counselling Coordinator said the day will be an exciting celebration of and tribute to all the dads in our lives across the greater Sunshine Coast community.
“Rides, market stalls, community group stalls, workshops, demonstrations, performances, food, pool activities, games and entertainment will make the day an exciting and enjoyable experience for families from all over the Sunshine Coast and from all walks of life,” Lee-Anne said.
“With the event heavily themed around suicide prevention, Lifeline Community Care is keen to help educate the community on suicide - what to look out for, ways to deal with it, ways to prevent it, the help and support that is available in the community and how they can access it,” Lee-Anne said.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 15 – 44 and is deaths by suicide are particularly high on the Sunshine Coast and in Aboriginal communities across Australia.
“With this event, we hope to highlight the issue of suicide, get talking about suicide and help acquire a real understanding in our community so that, as a community, we can begin to address the issue instead of simply ignoring it,” Lee-Anne said.
“As a well attended community event focused on men Doing Dads Proud is the perfect platform to reduce the stigma on suicide and increase understanding of the issue within the community.
“We’re asking the community to get behind this event – and this issue – to help start the conversation in a safe, fun and public setting while celebrating the dads in our lives.
“With donations from the community, we can ensure Doing Dads Proud, will continue to be everything it has been and more,” Lee-Anne said.
