Totally gnarly outcome for draft skate and BMX park strategy
Sunshine Coast Council recently approved a draft strategy governing skate and BMX facilities throughout the region and is now calling for community feedback.
The strategy will guide council over the next 15 years on how it manages, upgrades and maintains its 36 skate and BMX facilities across the Coast.
Social Strategy Portfolio Councillor Anna Grosskreutz said the draft skate and BMX strategy was great news for young people and all residents, who were invited to comment on it from Friday 11 June until Monday 16 August.
"The strategy sets out the policies and actions that are required to ensure that the skate and BMX network on the Sunshine Coast are well-designed and are in the best locations for users," said Cr Grosskreutz.
"These parks are hugely popular with young people and council wants to make sure they remain so.
"This will positively contribute towards the Sunshine Coast's character, identity and vibrancy and help physically active and healthy communities flourish."
The strategy will ensure:
future skate and BMX facility development is consistent with council's existing policies, plans and strategies;
skate and BMX facilities are sited in appropriate locations, and are in line with best practice planning, design and management;
an audit of all existing skate and BMX facilities is conducted to get a clear understanding of the current condition and what each facility has to offer;
future improvements, upgrades and redevelopment, recommended sites for new skate and BMX facilities; and
an action plan outlines how the recommendations will be delivered.
A complete version of the strategy is available to view on council's website: www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
