Stacks of claims are made "not to miss this" or "not to miss that"
because whatever it is has super special qualities. In the case of the
stage comedy Duets at The Indee the claims of something special hold
true. This is outstanding comedy. Four vignettes, and very funny
vignettes at that, plucked from life, hold absolutely true.
The first act features Luke Lanham and Debra Pitura leading off this set of four very funny pieces. The second half features Eddie Ellis and Marilyn Davies and vignettes cover looking for love through a dating magazine, a moment in time where opposite sexual preferences become attractions, a couple celebrating their imminent divorce and the final hilarious Duet is about a wedding ceremony just under way with a doubting bride.
The plays have been structured so that the actors have to completely change their character and their appearance, onstage so the audience can see them add wigs, padding etc. and it all has to be done in the space of a duet (eg Louis Armstrong/Ella Fitzgerald etc.) - about 3 minutes.
If you saw Deathtrap with Luke Lanham and Eddie Ellis you will realise that they are both fine actors but this is a total change of pace for them and a challenge to have to be two totally different people almost instantaneously..
When Duets played The Ensemble Theatre in Sydney last August with Barrie Creyton and Noeline Brown it recorded a sell-out season . Not only that, but the critics raved too. Duets is written by an English playwright, Peter Quilter, whose works are being staged right throughout Europe. Duets commences Friday, May 28 for a 2 week season. Opening night, including drinks and nibbles, all $20, other nights $20 and $18 for concessions and all tickets on Sundays. Both Fridays and Saturdays from 7.30, Sunday May 30 2pm, Sunday, June 6 5pm.
