Major events a tasty proposition for Coast businesses
The World is coming to the Sunshine Coast in 2016 and council is helping the region's food and tourism businesses showcase their products and services to the world.
To assist local companies maximise business opportunities from this year's unprecedented schedule of major events, council is hosting a free events+ Masterclass on Friday May 20 from 6:45am at the Alex Surf Club.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O'Pray said Friday's event would focus on September's World Ironman 70.3 and how Coast businesses can make the most from this international event.
"This year's Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast on September 4 will double as the World Triathlon Championships and around 13,000 participants and guests from 85 countries are expected to visit our region for the event," Cr O'Pray said.
"That means massive potential opportunities for our food retail outlets, our bakeries, our restaurants, our catering companies, food tourism groups, food tour operators and transport companies and any entrepreneur looking for an opportunity to boost their business when this big international event comes to our region!"
Friday's events+ Masterclass will be facilitated by dtb! Advertising and event organisers from the Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
CEO of Kuluin-based Amazing Oils, Lee Harold said he was excited to attend Friday's events+ Masterclass.
"Our company manufactures a range of magnesium products that are absolutely ideal for athletes, including topical sprays which can prevent cramping and stop pain within a few seconds of application. Having thousands of athletes from across the world on the Sunshine Coast in September is an incredible opportunity for us to showcase our business," he said.

Sunshine Coast Coffee Roasters Guild member and owner of Montville Coffee, Karen Barnett said she was looking forward to sharing ideas with other local businesses at Friday's events+ Masterclass.
"The Sunshine Coast recently became the first region in Australia to establish a Coffee Roasters Guild that enables our region's coffee roasters to work collectively for the betterment of our businesses," she said.
"When businesses collaborate and work together we can achieve amazing things and I'm excited to network with other food and tourism operators on Friday to find ways we can all maximise opportunities from the Ironman 70.3 in September."
