Festuri - Multicultural Festival

FESTURI, the Sunshine Coast’s premiere multicultural festival, will be taking place on Saturday 28th September, Lions Park Kings Beach, from 11am - 8 pm, as part of the Caloundra Fringe Festival. FESTURI is a family friendly multicultural event, featuring local, national and international acts, traditional and contemporary dance, music, a children’s festival, cultural workshops and flavors from around the globe from a diverse range of finger lickn’ good food stalls.

FESTURI Celebrations kick off at 11am with a Welcome to Country by Lyndon Davis and the Gubbi Gubbi Dancers, followed by a program of traditional and contemporary dance performances, cultural workshops, and some of the regions most culturally dynamic musical acts, hosted by local personality Derek AKA The BoogieMan from The Shared, (Yandina) who will bring, his famous Caribbean style and infectious good vibes. FESTURI, Artistic Director Zoe Scrogings says “This year we have really stepped up, ensuring that the program is truly reflective of the diverse society in which we live.

It is an amazing showcase of talent with performers representing all corners of the Globe. We have a children’s festival, roving characters from Dr Suessical the Musical, a hula hoop jam, hands on workshops ranging in art, music, culture and dance, plus a festival parade at 5pm, as well as the introduction of ColourFest Short Film Festival at 7pm.” Colourfest is Australia’s Multicultural Film Festival focusing exclusively on culturally diverse Australian stories.

Colourfest was conceived as a response to the lack of cultural diversity on Australian screens. Portrayal of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) Australians is littered with stereotypes and is generally skewed towards negative representations. Colourfest challenges such negative portrayals, and showcases a more authentic’ and inclusive image of Australians as a nation of diverse faces.
