LOCAL ARTISTS EXPLORE MULTICULTURALISM
A multicultural celebration exhibition, showcasing the work of 15 local artists will be launched at the Cooroy Butter Factory on August 25th at 7.00 pm, hosted by partners in art, Council's Creative Noosa unit and multicultural organisation FESTURI.
The visual art exhibition "FESTURI - Old Country New Country : an exploration of cultural diversity" will include paintings, sculptures, archive materials and ceramics, exploring notions of place, identity, relocation, migration and culture.
Creative Noosa Community Cultural Development Officer Katie Edmiston said today the exhibition will create "opportunities for us to reflect and discuss our identity, history, experiences and to celebrate as a community our differences and similarities."
FESTURI will be presenting a range of events across the Sunshine Coast over the whole weekend of 25, 26, 27th August, to highlight and celebrate local cultural diversity.
Weekend festivities will encompass the official art exhibition launch at Cooroy's restored heritage Butter Factory building on the Friday evening, a stunning Cultures of Asia event at Kings Beach Amphitheatre in Caloundra on the Saturday afternoon, a dynamic Latin Dance gala at Lake Kawana Community Centre on Saturday evening and, as a finale, an exciting Great Multicultural Celebration at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, August 27.
