Come along to a Social Enterprising workshop with Susan Black and Andrew Hamilton from Social Ventures Australia. Learn how it works and the potential impacts it has for the social sector across the Sunshine Coast. Hear inspiring examples of Social Enterprises based on the Sunshine Coast and explore opportunities for future development and support for your own organisation.
Social enterprises are social mission driven organisations which apply market-based strategies to achieve a social purpose. The movement includes both non-profits that use business models to pursue their mission and for-profits whose primary purposes are social. Their aim -- to accomplish targets that are social and/or environmental as well as financial -- is often referred to as the triple bottom line.
The two workshops will be held at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre (Wednesday 13th October, 10am-1pm) and Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre (Monday 18th October, 10:30am-1:30pm). Representatives from the community sector, business, education and government agencies are encouraged to attend.
These workshops are hosted by the Sunshine Coast Community Co-op, funded by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and delivered by Social Ventures Australia.
Presenters, Susan Black and Andrew Hamilton from Social Ventures Australia, will cover:
1. Understanding and running successful social enterprises
Gain a solid understanding of what a social enterprise is, the different kinds of social enterprises and the process for establishing a social enterprise designed to deliver employment outcomes for disadvantaged people.
2. Avenues for support to develop a social enterprise
Explore opportunities for future development and support for organisations, businesses, educational institutions and government agencies interested in social enterprising across the Sunshine Coast.
The Sunshine Coast Community Co-op was formed in May 2007 as a result of Caloundra Community Centre, Hinterland Community Development Association of Caloundra, Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre and Nambour Community Centre (the four funded neighbourhood / community centres on the Sunshine Coast) working in partnership to enhance human services on the Sunshine Coast.
Social Ventures Australia (SVA) invests in social change by helping increase the impact and build the sustainability of those in the social sector. SVA's investments are focused on high potential organisations that are fostering solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing our community. SVA's efforts are focused on three areas - supporting a portfolio of non-profit organisations, providing consulting services to the social sector and collaborating with partners on sector development and innovation.
