Member for Gympie, David Gibson is helping Gympie’s community sporting groups build their credentials with a free coaching basics workshop in Gympie this month.
The social media workshop will explore the pros and cons of various social media tools, how clubs can use them to aid communication and the pitfalls clubs need to consider and prepare for.
Mr. Gibson said the Building Active Communities workshops were aimed at first-time coaches, particularly those working with children and are the first training step in gaining coaching accreditation.
“This is a great opportunity for members of grassroots sporting organisations to learn some basic skills and build on their knowledge for the benefit of the local community,” Mr. Gibson said.
“The Newman Government’s Building Active Communities free training workshops can increase the skills and knowledge of coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers across a range of different sport and recreational activities.
“And the more people with these skills, the greater the asset they are to their local clubs, schools and communities.”
“I’m focused on encouraging growth and development in sport at the grassroots community level and workshops like these are helping to achieve that goal.”
The coaching principles course covers aspects common to all sports, including the role and responsibilities of a coach, planning, safety, working with parents, communication, group management and inclusive coaching practices.
“We want all Queenslanders to get involved in sport from an early age and have access to sporting opportunities wherever they live in Queensland.
“That’s why the Newman Government has committed to supporting them through our $18 million Get in the Game initiative.
“Get in the Game is about providing better equipment and facilities at the grassroots and giving children who might not otherwise be able to afford it the chance to get involved with sport.”
The workshop will be held from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday 18 October at the Gympie Civic Centre, 34 Mellor St, Gympie.
