Get Reel - Fiddlers Festival
Wednesday 24 August 8pm
Nambour Civic Centre
The cream of Australia's fiddlers, the FIDDLERS FESTIVAL has grown from humble beginnings at the Tamworth Country Music Festival nine years ago into one of the most sought after acts at all major festivals around Australia. Featuring some of the best fiddlers and violinists in Australia, the FIDDLERS FESTIVAL is a group of musicians playing an eclectic collection of music ranging from Jazz, Fusion, Celtic and Country to Contemporary.
What began with four fiddlers in 1996 has grown to over 36 fiddlers involved with various productions around the country. They not only perform but are dedicated to developing all aspects of Australian fiddle playing through education, composition, school development and international touring.
Fiddlers involved with this FIDDLERS FESTIVAL regional tour, under the musical directorship of Marcus Holden (on fiddle, mandolin and vocals), include Clare O'Meara (fiddle, vocals and piano), Mark Oats (fiddle and vocals), Garry Steel (piano, accordion), John Coker (electric bass) and Rodney Ford (drums and vocals).
After performing at major events and festivals around Australia including Woodford Folk Festival, Gympie Muster and Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Brisbane Festival, the FIDDLERS FESTIVAL is now mapping out an international promotional tour. With their new CD "GET REEL", the FIDDLERS FESTIVAL is proving to be a show that breaks barriers between the genres of music promoting Australian fiddle playing as a unique and distinct world music style.
Tickets are on sale at the Nambour Civic Centre for the performance on Wednesday 24 August at 7.30pm or phone Maroochy Venues & Events on 5475 7777.
