Drama and Comedy night at Buderim

Two award-winning one-act plays written, directed and performed by Sunshine Coast talent feature in a short and sweet program offering drama and comedy at Buderim.

Warinda Flowers by Bruce Olive and Frank Wilkie's Good Grief both attracted a string of awards in the 2009 South-East Queensland Drama Festival Circuit and will play on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 only.

Good Grief, written by former Sunshine Coast Daily journalist and Noosa Councillor Frank Wilkie, centres on a needy and unstable grief counsellor who uses a therapy session to pursue her own psycho-sexual agenda.

Leona Kirby plays the self-absorbed volunteer therapist Evelyn Barge dominating and decimating a church-based counselling service. Shane Ross plays the grieving husband referred to the church for assistance. Both characters undergo radical changes during the process but the results and revelations are not what anyone expects.

Olive's drama deals with the emotional and economic aftermath of a split-second, yet cataclysmic, tragedy which sparked a road bypass around a small country town. The play, directed by John McMahon and performed masterfully by his daughters Sarah and Anna, was written as a piece specifically for the two standout Buderim talents for the highly competitive festival circuit. The examination of loss, grief and guilt takes place many years after the bypass was built, when the sole campaigner is now a successful businesswoman in the town.

Warning: Good Grief contains profanity, adult and religious themes.

Two nights only at Buderim War Memorial Hall, corner of Gloucester Road and Main Street, Buderim.

All tickets $15. 8pm start. Bookings on 5445 2515
