"Buskers will be vying to outperform the other at the Big Top Shopping Centre"

The Grand Final of the Big Top Buskoff on Sat May 28 promises to be energetic as Sunshine Coast buskers vie to outperform the other between 10.30 and 2.30pm at the Big Top Shopping centre in Maroochydore.

Eight of the best will bring their remarkable talents to the main stage. Laura Thomas has inspired seasoned performers with her skills on the saxophone and clarinet.

Acoustic soloists Jody Shadford, Adrian Herd, Jason Harding and Joshie Boy will make it a hard competition to judge and have shown that there is great talent on the Sunshine Coast who need a place to perform.

Frenchies break-dancing have attracted huge crowds with their remarkable dance performance on the street.

Cliford Candy reminiscent of the one-man band performing some grass roots blues to the sounds of his acoustic guitar, harmonica and a slide didgeridoo. The slide didge is an instrument you must see in action.

Reed Property Group are the major sponsors of this event that has also been implemented to provide a much needed performance space for buskers and to bring this grassroots tradition back to the community.

Managing Director Ken Reed said, "the company is proud to support local cultural initiatives and to provide opportunities to showcase local talent. The Big Top Centre is an ideal location for gathering local artists and performers; we welcome everyone to join in."

Other major sponsors of the event include Sea FM who are sending day announcer Ben Folds to host the event, Youth Site, who have donated $500 for the winner, Maroochy Shire Council with $200 second place prize money and Evoke Management and Eleven PM studios have donated $100 for third place. Other lucky buskers have the chance to win autographed John Butler Trio cds and there is also an encouragement award from Mooloolaba Music of $100.

Lee Hillman from Back Beat Records has been judging the buskers during the heats and said,

" The coast has a wealth of musical talent and it has be a pleasure watching these not so well known performers strutting their stuff and cutting a rug". Lee will also be judging the grand final and will be joined by Lisa Kither from the Entertainer, Dan Lyons a venue consultant and manager, Peter Townson from Eleven PM Recording Studios and Di Petherick from Reed Property Group.

While the judges make the hard decisions Kitten and Frank Styler will finish of the afternoon with their unique brand of entertainment.

Big Top Buskoff

"Bring your act to the street and WIN"

Calling musicians, singers, jugglers, mimers, dancers, puppeteers, comedians, street artists or any other theatrical and visual form that can bring your act to the street?

The Big Top shopping centre is inviting you to come along to Maroochydore's first busking competition.

The Big Top Buskoff is an all ages busking competition to be held over a nine-week period each Saturday at the Big Top Shopping Center, Maroochydore from April the 2nd until May 28th.

Not only will you get a chance to showcase your talents in front of the local crowds but you will also have a chance of winning some great prizes and $500.00 cash in our competition.

The Big Top Buskoff is an exciting new initiative being undertaken on the Sunshine Coast by Youth Site and C.A.R.M.A (Cultural and Regional Musicians Association).

Both Youth Site and C.A.R.M.A are non-profit organizations that operate from artSynC the Sunshine Coasts arts incubator in Nambour. Youth Site provides a central hub of communication and information for young people and their service providers and C.A.R.M.A supports and promotes music industry workers and musicians in order to foster original music and events on the Sunshine Coast.

Busking is a grassroots tradition that brings the arts and cultural experience back to the community and this event has also been designed to raise the profile of the busking community and to contribute to the vitality and cultural life of the Sunshine Coast.
