It is believed to be more than 150 years since a traditional bark canoe has been seen on local waterways. Across south-east Queensland the skills and traditions of canoe making have been largely lost over time. Gubbi Gubbi Gun'doo Yang'ga'man is a research and reconstruction project that is seeing the skills and traditions of bark canoe making relearnt and reinstated by the Gubbi Gubbi people. This exhibition documents these activities and promotes the project’s national significance and value for the community.
Canoe builders, Lyndon Davis, Brent Miller, Nathan Morgan and Kerry Jones; Researcher, Ray Kerkhove; Documentation, James Muller; Curator, John Waldron.
The Gubbi Gubbi Gun'doo Yang'ga'man project is funded by Sunshine Coast Council’s Cultural Heritage Levy.
